Private View 2020
With a touch of Riviera glamour, plenty of September sunshine, and hint of boat show vibes, the exclusive Amels & Damen Yachting VIP 2020 Private View event proved to be a resounding success. A safety-considered, private event which, under strict COVID-19 measures, brought a little industry showtime to a year that has seen all large-scale events cancelled or postponed. This invitation-only three-day event – first of its kind in The Netherlands – provided the ideal platform for a limited number of clients and guests to take a look behind the scenes at the family-run shipyard and visit no less than nine luxury superyachts yachts across the entire Damen Yachting portfolio in complete peace of mind and privacy.
Vlissingen may not be Monaco but that didn’t stop the helicopters coming and going, the carpet being rolled out, superyacht crew pulling out all the stops, hosted tours on board, luxury tender transits and of course first-class hospitality including the highly sought-after local Zeeland oysters. And amidst the yachting glamour, the weather certainly added to the Riviera feel as guests were treated to the Zeeland sunshine at its best.
Impressive Line Up
There was certainly plenty for clients and guests to see with such an impressive line-up of yachts quayside at the Amels and Damen Yachting Vlissingen City shipyard and headquarters. The 77m-metre luxury SeaXplorer LA DATCHA – flanked by the 55-metre Yacht Support BLUE OCEAN and the luxury hospitality area complete with luxury tender pick up point – set the tone with a show-stopping welcome as guests entered the dedicated boat show set up. From the hospitality area, guests could make their way by tender round to the 74-metre Amels 242, which was just a couple of weeks off delivery, and the fully delivered 62.5-metre Amels 206 STARDUST which was completely show ready. In addition, guests could view a number of boats in-build including the 78-metre Amels Full Custom, an Amels 242, two Amels 200s and the 83-metre Amels 272 HERE COMES THE SUN currently undergoing a refit.
“The entire event exceeded our expectations. It was a pleasure to be able to welcome clients and guests to the shipyard and the entire team was very proud to have the opportunity to showcase such a line-up of yachts from our entire yachting portfolio. The quality time we could spend with our guests made for a very special private event with full luxury service and genuine results."
Boat Show Vibe
With nine luxury superyachts at the shipyard for guests to visit, there was certainly a boat show vibe to the event. Pre-arranged, private tours on board ensured clients could experience an exclusive and dedicated look around each of the yachts on display, from those in outfitting stages through to completely finished and delivered yachts, fully hosted by their crew. In contrast to a standard boat show visit, clients also had the chance to look around the shipyard itself and witness first-hand the craftsmanship and the build process behind the yachts. Captains, designers and Owner’s representatives were also on hand to meet clients and share their first-hand experiences of the yachts and their own projects.
Owner’s Representative 78-metre Amels Full Custom
‘’This is the first time I have experienced an event like this at any shipyard and I hope we see more of these sort of exclusive events. That said, I feel there are very few shipyards that are in the position to present such a diverse spread of yachts and explorer craft. That is what also made the Amels and Damen Yachting Private View event so unique.”
The key to the success of the event certainly lay in its exclusivity. Despite the overwhelming response to attend from those not restricted by current travel guidelines and COVID 19 measures, Private View remained focussed on providing a small and select number of guests with dedicated time on board the yacht or yachts of their choice. In addition to ensuring complete privacy and the opportunity to see the yachts and the yard in their own time, the exclusivity also guaranteed that all COVID-19 health and safety measures could be met.
The event would not have been possible without the support of the entire Damen Yachting team, the Owners’ teams and crew of each of the yachts on display and the co-makers who worked with us to take the event to the next level. We would like to extend special thanks to Wajer for providing the Wajer 55 tender for the event, Nautec Experience for supplying the tenders and toys on board BLUE OCEAN, U-Boat Worx for supplying the submersible on board BLUE OCEAN, Tec Wire for supplying the hand sanitiser stations for the event and VBH for the Sony screen in the hospitality area.
